Wildlife Refuge
Gandoca - Manzanillo
The Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge is one of the most popular destinations in the Southern Caribbean and is located just 2 km from AIRE Boutique Hotel, so you can get there on foot, by bicycle or by car.
It is a huge refuge of almost 4 hectares from Manzanillo to Gandoca that includes almost 5 km of reef. Here you can enjoy the jungle, the sea and the beach.
The best beaches in Costa Rica
The beaches of the Southern Caribbean are known to be some of the most beautiful in Costa Rica.

Punta Uva Beach was rated one of the 25 most beautiful beaches in the World by Tripadvisor in 2018, being a quiet beach, protected by the reef that runs from Cahuita to Manzanillo. This creates natural pools in Puerto Viejo, Playa Cocles, Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva. You can swim, dive and enjoy the wonderful underwater world.

The months of September, October and November the Caribbean Sea is very calm and is very pleasant for swimming and diving. In January, February and March the sea becomes rougher and allows for really good surfing. Just a 3-minute walk from our boutique hotel is Playa Grande, highly rated by surfers.


Surfing in the South Caribbean
The Southern Caribbean is one of the best places in Costa Rica to surf. There are several beaches for all levels of surfers, from beginners to professionals. You can surf at Playa Negra, Playa Cocles, Punta Uva and Playa Grande, which is located just 300 meters from AIRE Boutique Hotel. If you wish we can help you organize your surf lessons.
Indigenous culture
The canton of Talamanca, where we are located, is home to several indigenous territories such as the Bribrí Talamanca Indigenous Territory, the Cabécar Talamanca Indigenous Territory, and the Kéköldi Talamanca Indigenous Territory.

The natives of Costa Rica live in close connection with nature and have a deep knowledge of the balance of natural rhythms, agriculture, plant medicine and the traditional cultivation of organic cocoa.


Puerto Viejo de Limón
Puerto Viejo de Limón is one of the most unique towns in Costa Rica. It offers a great cultural richness and diversity that can only be found here in the southern Caribbean. This region is one of the most diverse in the country, with a large indigenous population, mainly Bribrà and Cabeca, as well as a large population of Afro-descendants who provide a strong cultural influence to the region. Some of the first families of Afro-Caribbean descent created a fishing village and settled near Punta Cahuita, just 20 minutes north of Puerto Viejo.

Every year Decent Person and African Culture Day is celebrated with the annual Wolaba parade. In addition, there is a large international immigration population that has come from all over the world and has made Puerto Viejo their home, making this place a true cultural melting pot.
Cahuita National Park
Cahuita National Park is one of the most beautiful destinations in the area and one of the best National Parks in Costa Rica to see wildlife. You will be able to see howler monkeys and white-faced capuchin monkeys, sloths and raccoons, as well as iguanas, snakes and lizards.
